Trail Gaiters are neoprene gaiters that you attach to the back of your Scootboots with Velcro. They protect the top of the heel bulbs from rubbing, for example on horses with sensitive skin or on long rides. The pack contains four gaiters, in other words two pairs.

Why choose Trail Gaiters

  • Protection from rubbing. The gaiter protects the heel bulbs from rubbing caused by sand and dirt.
  • When the boot is new. You use it while a new boot shapes itself to the hoof.
  • For sensitive skin. The gaiter is also helpful for horses with sensitive skin.
  • Easy to put on. In addition, you simply attach it with Velcro.

Trail Gaiters sizes

The gaiter size follows the size of your Scootboot Classic:

  • XS – Scootboot size M1–00
  • S – Scootboot size 0–2
  • M – Scootboot size 3–5
  • L – Scootboot size 6–9
  • XL – Scootboot size 10–11

Not sure which size your boots are? Then you will find all measurements in our size chart.

How to put on Trail Gaiters

First, open the gaiter and fold it over the rear strap of the boot. Then fasten both ends with the Velcro under the strap. Finally, check that the logo sits on the outside and faces the back. Make sure the gaiter sits correctly, so that no dirt collects between the heel bulbs and the gaiter. The video below shows how, and you will find more videos on our Instruction videos page.

When does your horse need gaiters?

You use Trail Gaiters when the boot is new, while it shapes itself to the hoof. If you instead shape the boot to your horse’s hoof from the start, with a heat gun or boiling water, you do not need them at all. Note, however, that the warranty on your Scootboots does not apply if you heat-shape the boots. Even so, break your horse in gradually. For example, ride no more than 6 km the first time and then increase the distance step by step. Each pair of Scootboot Classic comes with two gaiters.

Other gaiters

If your horse needs more protection, there are Endurance Gaiters, which protect the lower back of the pastern and the rear coronet area. In addition, there are MultiPurpose Gaiters, which fit all Scootboot models.
