It can be filled with anything from chopped hay, lucerne, pellets and muesli to pieces of apple and carrot.

Pro tip: for sensitive or nervous horses, start with “high-value” treats clearly visible on top of the mat, then gradually bury the feed deeper in the structure as the horse grows confident with the product.

Cleaning: the non-porous silicone surface makes it more hygienic than plastic or rubber mats.

1. Rinse with water (or run through the dishwasher if needed).

2. Hang up by the hole in the corner.

3. Air dry.

Frequently asked questions: “Will the horse eat the leaves/clover flowers/the mat?” A common but unfounded concern. The EQUNIQUE Activity Mat is designed for soft-tissue work — the horse uses its soft lips and mobile muzzle to navigate the structure. As the material is 100% food-safe, there is no risk of toxic residues.

1. Extended eating time: increases saliva production and gives the horse a healthier digestive rhythm.

2. Activation during box rest (a mental lifeline): reduces stress and counteracts stereotypic behaviours through effective environmental enrichment.

3. Calming focus in demanding situations: the mat creates a positive, calming occupation in situations that place high demands on the horse — a perfect aid for keeping the horse harmonious and occupied during hoof care, veterinary visits or transport.

Natural foraging — environmental enrichment in the stable

The EQUNIQUE Activity Mat helps meet the horse’s ethological needs in a modern stable environment, contributing to better mental health and reduced stress.

The importance of foraging and digestive health

In the wild, horses spend 16–18 hours a day foraging.
